Our Highbay Pentagon 6-lamp F54T5 HO is equivalent to a 400-watt metal halide bulb. Changing your facility’s highbay lighting from metal halide (MH) to energy efficient T5 fluorescent will save you money on utility costs. High bay lights are ideal for facilities with tall ceilings, such as warehouses, factories and as gymnasium lighting.
The Benefits of Fluorescent T5 Lights
Also known as “F-bays” in the lighting industry, T5 HO (high output) linear fluorescent lights use just 190 watts as opposed to the 454 watts required by a 400-watt MH fixture. Less wattage means lower cost, though producing the same high-quality light. Also, fluorescent bulbs lose less of their light output over their lifespan than metal halide. T5 bulbs produce a better-quality light with less eye strain. Unlike metal halide, T5 fixtures come on instantly, with no warm-up needed. This is “instant-on” lighting (and instant off). T5 lights offer starts down to 0 degrees Fahrenheit and have a wide-angle beam for superior aisle and area coverage. If your light will be above produce, other food products or for swimming areas or gymnasium lights, choose the model with the clear polycarbonate lens to alleviate any safety concerns.
The Evolution of Fluorescent Bulbs
T12 is the oldest and least efficient of the fluorescent tubes. The “T” designates the diameter of the lamp’s tube (for example a T12 bulb is 12/8 inches or 1.5 inches). The T8 bulb is smaller with a higher efficiency, while the T5 fluorescent bulb is the smallest and most energy efficient. All will have a lifespan of approximately 36,000 hours if used for 12 hours a day.
